APT Padel Tour: The Alternative Professional Circuit

The APT Padel Tour (Asociación de Pádel de Tenis, also referred to as the A1 Padel Tour in some contexts) is a professional padel circuit that operates independently of the FIP-sanctioned Premier Padel structure. It competes with Premier Padel for players in the mid-to-upper professional ranks and is particularly important for players who fall outside the top 50 world rankings.

The APT circuit runs tournaments in Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East, providing a competitive calendar for professional players who aren't consistently in Premier Padel tournaments. Players can use APT points toward their own ranking system, and some crossover exists with players competing on both circuits.

The professional padel world has been shaped by a recurring tension between competing governance structures: the FIP (representing national federations) and private commercial entities (World Padel Tour, APT). The consolidation of Premier Padel under FIP and Nojorami in 2022–2023 was an attempt to unify the top tier, but the APT circuit remains a significant alternative structure.

For amateur and developing players, the APT Tour's presence creates more competitive opportunities globally. When top-tier Premier Padel events come to a new market, APT events often follow, helping establish padel infrastructure and coaching ecosystems in those regions.
