Padel in Nottingham

Nottingham has one of the most dynamic padel communities in the East Midlands, fuelled by the city's two major universities and a youthful, sport-hungry population. Courts and coaching have expanded rapidly across West Bridgford, Beeston, Arnold, and the City Centre, and the coaching standard has kept pace — all coaches in our Nottingham directory hold LTA certification. The university influence shapes Nottingham's padel culture in a unique way. Nottingham Trent and the University of Nottingham between them enrol around 70,000 students, many of whom are looking for accessible, sociable sport. Padel — quick to learn, fun to play, and ideal for small groups — has become a favourite. This young player base pushes coaches to be engaging and modern in their approach. Notttingham also sits at the heart of the Midlands padel corridor, within easy reach of Birmingham, Derby, and Leicester. Competitive players find it easy to access a wider circuit, and coaches here are experienced with players at all stages from first-time beginner to regional competitor. Private coaching typically costs £28–£55 per hour, and group sessions are widely available. Search the directory below to find an LTA-certified padel coach in Nottingham.

Local 2026 pricing ranges, private vs group lesson costs, and how to find better-value sessions.

What Is Padel?

Padel is a racket sport played in doubles on an enclosed court with walls. It combines elements of tennis and squash and is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world.

Padel Rules: How the Game Works

Padel rules are simple to learn. Played in doubles on an enclosed court, the game uses tennis scoring and allows the ball to bounce off walls after hitting the ground.

Padel Equipment: What You Need to Play

To play padel you need a padel racket, padel balls, and appropriate footwear. The racket is solid (no strings) with holes, and the balls are slightly softer than tennis balls.

The Bandeja: Padel's Essential Overhead

The bandeja is a controlled overhead shot in padel used to maintain net position. It's one of the most important shots in the game and a must-learn for intermediate players.

The Golden Point: Padel's Sudden Death Rule

The golden point is the sudden death point played at deuce (40-40). One team serves, and the receiving team chooses which side to return from. The team that wins the point wins the game — no advantage.

Wall Play in Padel: How to Use the Walls

Wall play is what makes padel unique. After a ball bounces on your side, it can hit the back or side wall — and you can still play it. Mastering the walls transforms your defensive game.
